The movie setting is in the modern era with the people having the knowledge of the colonial era. The movie is about how The freeman’s crossed path with a drug cartel’s money which came with adverse consequences.
Brenda’s bother “Reggie” played by Ludacris took the money when Brenda was attending to Cross’s runaway worker (the cartel boy who went AWOL with cross’s money) who got shot by Cross himself. Little did they know that there was going to be a twist which will put the all in danger.
The other characters see the freeman’s played by Queen latifah, Ludacris, Mychala Faith and Frances Lee McCain as beasts from Africa. This is where discrimination comes into the movie. Brenda was coerced to beg for passage by a group of two young men who insinuated that Brenda endangered their and I quote their “White lives” after chasing Brenda and her family and hitting their car, beaten and assaulted by a gang who said and I quote “I’ll blow your ass back to Africa.”
Presently, discrimination is a common thing even in the modern age. Not only are Blacks discriminated, other races like Asians, immigrants, Hispanics, American Indians and so on. It’s a call for awareness and enlightenment. It’s high time we accept that we’re all one created by the same God, let it sink into our brains and transmit it to the next generation.
This movie also expressed the love of a mother to her children. It shows how a mother will do anything for her child regardless of whatever pain she’ll go through.

I guess it’s nice seeing Ludacris playing a role in a movie other than Fast and Furious.
